About Emami Group :-

Emami group started as a manufacturer of toiletry and cosmetics in the year 1974.
Today, Emami is a Rs 1500 crore group of companies.

The plants and production activities of the group are currently spread across West Bengal, Pondicherry, Assam, Gujarat, Orissa, Uttaranchal and Himachal Pradesh.
Recently, Emami has signed a MoU for a Cement and Power Plant in Chhattisgarh.

Emami has grown from West Bengal and will continue to be a part of the accelerated industrial growth of the State. Its Bio-diesel Project is another step in the direction.


Bio-Diesel in brief :-

Bio-Diesel is a clean fuel, which can be produced from edible, non-edible oil and fats. It has been widely accepted as a substitute of petroleum diesel by automobile & engine manufacturers and end users. Presently it is available for commercial use in the European Union, the USA and Australia. The European Union has already made it mandatory to blend Bio-Diesel to the extent of 5.75% with Petroleum Diesel.

Bio-Diesel is biodegradable, non-toxic, non-flammable and a non-explosive product. It also reduces the pollution in atmosphere by a significant margin.

Bio-Diesel will be produced in future from jatropha oil. Cultivation of jatropha will generate enormous employment and sustainable income for the poor farmers, landless labourers, help in utilization and reclamation of wasteland and maintain ecological balance.


Emami is now setting up a bio-Diesel plant at Haldia with a capacity of 1 lac tonne per annum in technical collaboration with Desmet Ballestra Group Company, Italian Belgian joint enterprise, at a project cost of Rs 150 crores. It will produce glycerin as a byproduct.


The project will be commissioned by the end of 2007. This is the first Bio-Diesel plant in Eastern India.
